Jammu, Dec 30 (KNO): As the ensuing year draws to a close, Jammu and Kashmir has got the first female bus driver, Pooja Devi from the Jammu division who besides fulfilling her passion is fighting poverty to have a stable life.
Resident of Basuli Tehsil in Kathua district of Jammu division, Pooja while talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that though the driver’s profession is full of challenges, she choose the profession to earn a livelihood.
“I had not imagined that people would appreciate and encourage me to this extend. It is quite a warming the way I was welcomed in this field,” she said.
“There is an unexpected response from the people. People come and ask for selfies with me, it is encouraging,” Pooja said.
Pooja said her decision to be a bus driver has eliminated the speculations about the women having less mentality and exposure.
Pooja said that she is optimistic that after receiving accolades, the government would notice her for a driver’s job.
“I hope that the government will accommodate me as a driver in a department or with some official at the secretariat, so that I can provide a decent life to my children,” she said—(KNO)
