Srinagar: To strengthen the party base in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has kick started the membership drive in the state.
The party senior leadership has designated its senior workers for the task and assigned them all the ten districts of Kashmir Valley.
Sofi Yousuf will look after the membership drive in Kulgam; Dr Ali in Anantnag; Altaf Thakur in Pulwama; Arif Raja Srinagar; MM War in Kupwara; Haleema Ji in Baramulla; Sidiq Khan in Shopian; Darakshan Andrabi in Budgam and Ahraf Reshi in Ganderbal.
“We have got more than 17 lakh votes in recently held Lok Sabha elections in the state, which is 46 percent of voter share. To increase the number of voters we have started this membership drive in the state,” Altaf Thakur, BJP state spokesperson said.
Thakur said that party has taken strong steps to put an end to corruption and punish corrupt persons. “This is being appreciated by general public and which is one of the reasons that general people wanted to join the party,” he said.
On Saturday, scores of party workers led by senior leaders of the party including state vice-president BJP Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir, state spokesperson Altaf Thakur and MLC Surinder Ambardar took out a rally from district office to Nowpora chowk.
Thakur said the party had decided to initiate membership drive from Bandipora on the birthday of the party founder Syama Prasad Mukherji. “BJP believes in “Sab Ka Sath”, “Sab Ka Vikas” and “Sab Ka Vishvas”, and the party is committed to work on these principles in the state,” he said.
