Students fail to appear as website crashes, server couldn’t take heavy load

Bhat Imran

Srinagar, June 15 (KNO): As the term 1st examination of Class 8th commences today, a number of students couldn’t appear in the examinations due to what they termed as ‘lackadaisical approach’ of the School Education department.

An official of the department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that in various areas, the students couldn’t appear in the examinations today. “The Google classroom forum link created by the School Education Department to hold online Term-1st exams was not functional for all the students who were scheduled to appear in the test,” he said.

“The website link created for students crashed due to heavy flow of the participants,” he added. The official also told KNO that the exams of 8th standard students are being conducted by the respective District Institute of Education and Training (DIET).

“These exams have confused the teachers working in government-run-schools as to how SIE can hold the Term 1st examination of 8th standard,” he said.

The official further said the online examinations of 8th standard started from Monday. “Today was the first paper of English subject and the question paper appeared was Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based.” he added.

Pertinently, the SIE Kashmir is lying headless since the retirement of its Joint Director Mehboob Hussain. Examination in-charge SIE, Dr Nazneen, however, told KNO this was not an examination but an assessment of what students have obtained and achieved from online classes since March

“There was no need to panic as it was not an examination but an assessment and with this evaluation, we can measure how much students have learned during these months,” she said.

“Today, we started it on a trial basis to check how many students will turn up for the examination or assessment and fortunately, the participants were more than we expected that even led to the technical snag due to heavy load on the server,” Nazneen said—(KNO
