Baramulla, July 17 (KNO): Authorities on Friday re-imposed lockdown in several areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following a spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district.
All the shops and other business establishments were closed while public transport was also off the roads in Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Uri and Palhalan areas. Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that only pharmaceutical shops remained open throughout the day.
They said that the mains roads as well as the highway was sealed by the authorities at most of the places in the district .
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr. G N Itto in an order had said that “In order to contain the further spread of COVID19, it has become imperative to impose severe restrictions in terms of Section 144 CrPC and Section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and therefore restrictions are being impose with immediate effect.”
All the relevant law enforcement agencies are meanwhile asked “to ensure strict implementation of restrictions.”
As per the official figures, the toll of active positive cases of COVID in Baramulla district has mounted to 774 while 48 patients have so far died due to the virus—(KNO)
