Srinagar, Nov 04 (KNO): State Election Commissioner (SEC) K K Sharma Friday said that the third phase of ensuing District Development Council (DDC) Polls in J&K saw 50 per cent voting in 33 constituencies with overall voting remaining peaceful barring one incident that of an attack on a DDC candidate.

Addressing a press conference in Jammu, the SEC said that 16 DDC constituencies went to polls in Kashmir and 17 in Jammu. “In Kashmir, Kulgam district recorded the highest poll percentage of 64. 45 per cent while in Jammu Reasi recorded 75.3 percent of polling,” Sharma said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that 246 polling stations were set up for 372643 voters. He said that the election was peaceful barring one incident where a DDC candidate was attacked. “I confirmed from IGP Kashmir about the condition of the candidate. He is stable and out of danger. FIR has been registered. The Election Commissioner’s office has condemned the incident. Those involved will be brought to justice soon,” he said—(KNO)
