Say have lost faith in politicians/political parties, no fun in taking part in polls: South Kashmir residents

Jahangeer Ganaie

Pulwama, Dec 07 (KNO): Residents of various areas of South Kashmir where polling for the fourth phase of ongoing District Development Council (DDC) polls was held on Monday, continued to stay away from the ballot stating that they have lost faith in politicians.

Speaking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), with various residents of South Kashmir who stated that there is no trustworthy politician whom they can trust and vote. “So better is stay away from polls,” they said.

Danish Ahmed, a resident of Kulgam said that they have one by one tried everyone but on ground no body works for the welfare of people rather they only know looting government exchequer in whatever way they can.

He said that for 70 years, political parties have been getting votes for safeguarding the special status of J&K but they failed to do so and are now seeking votes for its restoration. “All have failed to protect even when they were in absolute majority,” Danish said.

Nawaz Ahmad, a resident of Kapran belt of Shopian said that regional parties including congress were voted for 70 years but they even failed to provide them basic issues so how can they vote them again. “We can’t vote for BJP who forcibly snatched everything from us,” he said.

He added one can’t find any credible person who isn’t involved in one or the other scam, so how can they work for the welfare of people so better is stay away from politics.

Altaf Ahmad a resident of Tahab area of Pulwama also echoed similar concern and said that everyone has lost their trust in politics as politicians failed to work as per the expectations of the people.

He said that maximum people even don’t know what elections are going on and who is contesting them as they are very least interested in it. Pertinently in fourth phase of DDC elections around 90 percent people in Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian and around 75 percent people in Anantnag decided to stay away from polls—(KNO)
