Baramulla, Dec 04 (KNO): Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “dismantling democracy” in the country, a large number of voters turned up in north Kashmir’s Wagoora and Sangrama Baramulla district to keep the right-wing party at bay.
Talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), many voters standing in long queues outside the polling booths, said that under the BJP reign the fundamentals of democracy has been “dismantled” while the rights of minorities in mainland India has “shrunk”.
“The unilateral decision by the BJP to abrogate Article 370 was unconstitutional. By casting a vote today, we want to show them that they don’t belong here,” voters said.
Haji Abdul Aziz, an elderly man from Nowpora Jageer told KNO, that it is the first time that he along with his neighbours are casting votes.
“Our locality is facing tremendous hardships as it has been ignored by all the representatives so far. We need clean water, uninterrupted electricity and proper road connectivity,” Aziz said. “BJP has done nothing for us.”
According to the officials, in Wagoora block 38 per cent turnout voting was recorded. Around 14,619 voters cast vote, that includes 7941 male and 6678 female voters.
In Sangrama block, 23.44 per cent polling was recorded. 8618 voters cast the vote that includes 4941 male and 3677 females—(KNO)
