Srinagar, Dec 25 (KNO): Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Sopore on Friday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that a police party from Police Station Sopore established a checkpoint at Shabad near Main Chowk Sopore and intercepted a vehicle i20 bearing registration number JK05H-9954 with one person on board. He has been identified as Abdul Hameed Bhat resident of Hygam Sopore, police said.
During checking, the spokesman said that officers were able to recover 55 grams of Heroin from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Sopore where he remains in custody, he said, adding that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, police said a case under FIR number 358/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police said—(KNO)
