Sopore, Nov 24 (KNO): Inhabitants of Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here have expressed resentment against the district administration for failing to repair the defunct drainage system in their area.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the snowfall followed by the rains caused water logging in Sopore areas, which as per the locals was the result of faulty drainage system in their respective localities.
The locals said that muddy water has entered into their shops and houses, but unfortunately, nobody is paying heed to the sufferings of the people here.
“It was a flood-like situation in Sopore localities as the accumulated water overflowed from faulty drains directly entered into our houses. Our lawns turned into ponds,” the locals said.
The aggrieved residents told KNO that the authorities concerned have failed to repair the faulty drainage system in their area, thus leaving the locals to lurch at large.
“There is no proper drainage system in the entire town while the concerned department has miserably failed to take any step in this regard,” the residents said, adding that they approached Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore and the concerned department many times regarding the issue but nothing has been done in this regard.
The locals later appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and redress their grievances at an earliest.
Meanwhile, an official from Roads and Building (R&B) department said that a tender has been issued but after the objection from the locals, the work was put on halt—(KNO)
