Fire damages portion of school building designated as polling station in Ramban

Polling staff, polling related material safe, damaged building portion located away from designated polling station, says ADC Ramban

Ramban, Dec 09 (KNO): A portion of school building, which was designated as polling station for the fifth phase of DDC election in Dhalwas area of Ramban, got damaged after fire erupted in the building late Wednesday evening.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that fire erupted from a portion of the school building where polling staff was stationed for the fifth phases of DDC and panchayat by-polls to be held on Thursday.

“In the incident, a portion of school complex got damaged.” he said.

However, additional deputy commissioner Ramban, Harbans Lal told KNO that the fire erupted from a building which is located at a distance from the designated polling station.

He informed that the fire temders have reached the spot and fire has been brought under control.

He said that following the incident additional SP and tehsildar along with other officials have also reached at the spot.

“The polling party, voting material and all other things are safe,” ADC said.

He further said that the fire broke out in an abandoned portion of the school, which is at a distance from the new complex where polling will be held tomorrow—(KNO)
