Sopore December 17: Anti Poaching Team of Fisher Department Sopore North Kashmir Baramulla district on Thursday evening arrested illegal fish poacher.

According to Kashmir Citizen, The poaching equipment including nets, boats were seized by the employees of Fisheries department in presence of ADM Fisheries Mohammed Shafi.

“Our anti-poaching squad is working throughout night to eliminate illegal gill nets, which is leading to depletion of fish and proving to decrease fish population in Wular Lake and Jehlum.

“Only registered fishermen can use cast nets and rods to catch fish and that too in day time. But poachers are using illegal gillnets and fixed gears during night time which is both illegal and fatal for fish production”, he said. 

Shafi urged fishermen shun poaching and avail various facilities that the department is providing to the registered fishermen.

He further said that the department has pressed a team on task to check poaching.We have tightened noose on poachers as our anti-poaching team is conducting surprise raids to check poaching of fish”.

The accused was identified as Javid ahmad dar son of Mohammad maqbool dar resident of Nowhama Sopore, the accused will be held under according to Fishers Regulation Act, will fine him accordingly.
