Kupwara, Jan 04 (KNO): Dismayed over the dysfunctional of New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC), the residents of Ganipora in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district Monday blamed the health department for playing with the lives of people and making medical attention a distant dream for over three thousand souls.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the locals of Ganipora said that the dysfunctional of NTPHC has left the entire population to suffer and patient are forced to travel several kilometres for even minor ailments.
The locals said that the two-room building where the hospital is presently functioning has no power supply, no seating arrangement, and for a facility for minor ailments and injuries including the X-rays a patient is forced to visit the Kupwara SDH or District Hospital Handwara.
“Even for the minor first aid, patients are made to travel to district headquarters for medical attention since the two-room story functioning currently has no facility available not even the power and seating arrangement,” he said.
A senior citizen said that the entire population for want of treatment is made to enter the Army premises first. “We’re made to cross an Army gate (entrance point) and then reach the spot with no facility available for the patients of the area,” he said.
He also said that the premises don’t even have a single bed to cater to the ailing patients and functions up to 2 pm only on daily basis.
“The newly constructed NTPHC has nearly 30 rooms with almost all the facilities but is shut for a year now”, locals said. “It seems like the health department is scared of making new building functional only because they’ll have to depute required health teams and doctors here”.
The locals said that the inaction from the health department in making the NTPHC functional speaks volumes and people amid this deadly COVID-19 pandemic are made to face immense challenges and patients who need attention are the worst sufferers.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara, Dr Kausar Amin while acknowledging the problems faced by residents said that power supply and a bed are available in the hospital.
“The building is prepared but has not handed over yet, I will look into it,” she said—(KNO)
