Sopore, Dec 02 (KNO): Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) workers Wednesday staged a protest in Sopore against the administration for not allowing their candidates to file nomination papers to contest ongoing municipal polls.

Talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Apni Party Sangrama constituency in-charge Tanveer Fatima alleged that for the last one week the returning officer is creating unnecessary hurdles for their candidates in filing the nomination papers.

“When we tried to file the nomination papers, the officer told us that we to bring 10 proposals along with a candidate, as our party is not recognised,” Fatima said. “We all know that Sopore is not a normal place to carry out any election process. It is very difficult for candidates to contest elections here.”

Fatima alleged that though Tuesday was the last date for filing nomination forms, candidates from National Conference (NC) candidate was allowed to submit the form with only one or two proposals.

“It is very clear that administration is supporting NC,” Fatima alleged.

Fatima said when they approached the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, he refused to provide any assistance in the matter.

“Our party is requesting the Election Commission and Prime Minister of India to extend the last date of nomination forms for at least two more days,” she said—(KNO)
