Sopore, Sep 09 (KNO): The residents of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are up in arms against the local administration for failing to upgrade the condition of the bus stand for the past several years.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the locals said that the bus stand which is located in the heart of apple town is in a pathetic condition as the concerned authorities have failed to upgrade it condition for the past several years.

Abdul Ahad, a bus driver said that the bus stand was macadamized in 1987 and since then it has not been upgraded as the successive regimes have failed to maintain its condition over the years.

“The successive governments have failed us on every front and because of this step-motherly approach we are yet to see any development in Sopore town,” he said.

The locals said that the administration should immediately take some measures so that commuters do not suffer.

They also said that the local municipality and shopkeepers have been dumping waste material in the bus stand, thereby turning it into a dumping site. “The garbage dumped inside the bus stand produces a foul smell which makes daily commuters and passers-by suffer a lot.”

Executive officer Sopore Sameer Jan told KNO that the municipality workers have been working round the clock and no garbage is dumped inside the bus stand as it is dumped outside the town.

Meanwhile, a senior official of public works department sub-division Sopore said that they have already submitted a detailed project report to district administration Baramulla for the upgradation of the bus stand, however, it has not been approved as yet—(KNO)
