A full scale Cleanliness Drive Launched under Swatch Bharat Mission by 44 Rastriya Rifles in the six different villages of Distt Shopian and Pulwama

44 Rashtriya Rifles wef. 05 Nov to 07 Nov 2020 organised a cleanliness drive under *Swatch Bharat Mission * in the villages of Wuyan, Sugan, Pohan, Chowgam, Ahgam and Shadimarg adopted by nearby army camps of 44RR.

In addition to efforts of local administration, 44RR took initiative and successfully persuaded locals from the village to launch cleanliness drive in sync with the aim of Swachh Bharat Mission which is to achieve a clean India. Col Arun Kumar Singh, CO 44RR dedicated this effort to support the local community and walk shoulder to shoulder in achieving SWACHH KASHMIR – ZINDADIL KASHMIR

In recent past ,Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) have fined over 60 people found polluting the environment. According to the SMC officials they are trying to ‘talk’ to people regarding the importance of sanitation. All the 20 districts in Jammu and Kashmir and 02 districts in Ladakh division, 7,565 villages and 4,171 Gram Panchayats in both the Union Territories were declared 100 per cent Open Defecation Free as per Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) guidelines.

Apart from constructing 1.1 million individual household toilets and 1,350 community sanitary complexes, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories have played a vital and significant role in bringing about a behavioural change on the minds of the people.

Meanwhile, 44 Rashtriya Rifles has been conducting regular Medical Camps and has undertaken an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission to help and motivate the local population towards a clean and healthy lifestyle. The huge turnout of locals in recently conducted events are proof that even they are appreciative of the efforts of the Army. Be it the Sarpanchs, the shopkeepers, the school teachers, kids, ladies, old-young, people of all age groups and stature participated in making their villages clean and healthy. With the public becoming aware and desirous of the advantages of cleaner surroundings and use of public toilets, the Nationwide mission seems to be on the right track. Even in the smallest of villages there were young girls and boys trying to convince their parents (some even forcing them), to pick up a broomstick or use the dustbin to discard waste. The enthusiasm of the youth in trying to make a difference, trying to make a better-cleaner future was a sight to cherish.
