Bandipora, Dec 26 (KNO): The residents of Kashpat village located in the remote valley of Tulail in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Saturday said that the only link road leading to their village is closed for the last one month due to accumulation of snow.

Talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), locals said that the road is closed for more than a month now and they have to face a lot of inconveniences owing to closure of only link road.

Kilshay-Kashpat road is the only link road connecting more than two dozen households with Kilshay and rest of the Tulail valley.

“Due to recent heavy snowfall, the road got closed. However, a month has passed, the authorities have not cleared the snow from the road, leaving us at the mercy of God,” a local resident Hanief Lone said.

However, when contacted sub-divisional magistrate Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad told KNO that the Kilshay-Kashpat road is still incomplete and they cannot clear snow from the road by snow-cutters and other snow clearance machines.

“The road is still incomplete, how can we clear snow from the road. It is a link road between Kilshay and Kashpat villages. If the road would have been complete we would have cleared snow from this road as we did on rest of the roads in Gurez valley,” he said.

Notably, Kilshay is the second village of remote Tulail valley. It consists of around seven small hamlets including Kashpat.

The villagers said being the only road that connects them with the rest of the world, the authorities should pay attention to their “genuine grievances” on priority.

“If the road is incomplete, the authorities must clear the snow manually. We have to walk on foot around 5 km in around 4 feet deep snow to reach Kilshay village,” they said.

The villagers appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to personally look into the matter and help to resolve their grievances—(KNO)
