SHOPIAN, AUG 2, KNT: A soldier has been killed in the on going gunfight between militants and government forces in Pandushan village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police official while confirming the death of an army soldier said that gunfight raged in the middle of the night after Forces during a cordon and search operation established contact with militants who resorted to indiscriminate firing.
Defence sources told Kashmir News Trust that a soldier from 34 Rashtriya Rifles Ram Vir sustained bullet wounds during the encounter. Though he was given specialized treatment at Srinagar based 92 Base Army hospital, but he succumbed to injuries.
The exchange of fire was underway till the filing of this report. (KNT)
