Sopore, June 19 (KNO): Authorities on Friday closed the Sopore bypass bridge for the vehicular movement, soon after it developed cracks. The bridge connects the apple town with Kupwara and Bandipora districts.
An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the authorities have closed the bridge for the vehicular movement.
Pertinently, the bridge was inaugurated on 18th August 2015 by the then Chief Minister of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that the road leading to the bridge has also developed potholes, thus posing a grave threat to the commuters.
They said that the bridge took almost 23 years to get complete, adding that the bridge was closed by the authorities from February 27 to March 10 in 2016 to “conduct road test”, which raised many doubts regarding the functioning of the bridge and material used in its construction.
They said that the bridge should be repaired properly to make it safe for daily commuting.
Meanwhile, a Beacon official told KNO that they have blocked the traffic movement for further repairs on the bridge—(KNO)
