Sopore, Dec 07 (KNO): Fishermen community in Sopore on Monday held a protest against the fisheries department for excluding the names of deserving families in the recently announced Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) list.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the office of the assistant director fisheries in district Baramulla, Sopore had announced a list of beneficiaries for the financial assistance for the construction of low-cost houses under PMMSY for fisherman families.

However, President of fishermen community, Farooq Jabbar told KNO, that the deserving families were not mentioned in the list.

“It is sheer injustice with us. We request the fisheries department to do the survey again so that deserving families will take advantage of the scheme,” he said.

Another fisherman alleged that the employees of the fisheries department are taking “bribes” to allow some unscrupulous elements to go for illegal netting into the Wular lake to catch fishes.

While talking to KNO, an official from fisher Department Baramulla, Mohammad Shafi said that the families which have not appeared in the list should contact the authorities for the same.

“We will update the list. All deserving families will be included,” he said.

Shafi also refuted the allegation of corruption in the department—(KNO)
