‘Stolen property worth lakhs recovered’

Srinagar, Jan 02 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a theft case and arrested accused persons involved in the commission of crime in Srinagar while adding that the stolen property worth lakhs was also recovered from them.

“On 24-12-2020, Police Post Bemina received a written complaint from one Danish Farooq of Hamdania Colony Bemina Srinagar, proprietor of a Copper shop in Zehra Complex situated at Hamdania Colony Bemina stated that during the intervening night of 23/24-12-2020, some unknown thieves have broken the shutter of the shop and stolen the copper utensils worth lacs,” police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 270/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Parimpora and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, police inspected the scene of occurrence & completed all legal formalities including obtaining CCTV footage from the said shop and of adjacent areas. With the help of technical information and analysis of CCTV footage some suspects were identified, the statement said.

“On the basis of technical information, one suspect was zeroed in and was apprehended along with other four accomplices. On their disclosure, stolen copper utensils worth lakhs were recovered from Lasjan area,” police said.

Notably, in the last 20 days, Sub-division West Srinagar has solved the second theft case and recovered stolen property worth 19 lacs.

Pertinently, most of the area is under CCTV surveillance. Local Market Associations cooperated in installing CCTVs cameras at their business units as requested during various Police Public meetings held by the Subdivision to which they responded positively & consequently theft cases in the area have declined and instilled a sense of security among the traders. Srinagar Police has always maintained that the cooperation of public must to curb social evils—(KNO)
