Closure of bridges, lanes in city parts cause inconvenience to people; locals demand immediate lifting of barbed wires

Gowhar Nazir

Srinagar, Oct 05 (KNO): Some major bridges and lanes continue to remain blocked as pools of concertina wires restricting the total movement of people remains intact in some areas even after government claims of lifting the restrictions from the valley.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the closure of few bridges and lanes of Srinagar city have caused great inconveniences to the general public, who are the daily commuters of these bridges and lanes leaving most of the commuters aghast and disappointed by the useless move even after the 62nd day of announcement of restrictions in the region.

As the people of HabbaKadal, JogiLankar, Rainawari and several other places have appealed to the competent authorities to take an immediate action in removal of pools of concertina wires and barricades, causing the closure of the bridges and lanes.

Abdul Rashid, a shopkeeper from Habba kadal told KNO, “I have a shop on the other side of the Habba Kadal bridge and the closure of the same is continuously causing great inconvenience while making to and fro from my home.”

He said that he was a frequent commuter of the bridge but unfortunately now the bridge is blocked by the nearby post of CRPF 144 Battalion, now for no reasons. He further added,“The closure of old bridge Habba kadal has led to the suspension of public movement leaving the bridge completely deserted.”

Abdul Rahman, a resident of Jogi Lankar, Rainawari told KNO,” The Jogi Lankar Bridge which remains closed for general public since Aug 05 has added on the sufferings of the people from both ends.”

He said that the closure of the bridge serves no purpose for now as the authorities have already lifted all sorts of restriction from the valley. He further added that,” I humbly appeal to the concerned authorities to lift the pools of barbed wires from the bridge so that the people from the both ends will move freely in the area.”
