Former Minister and Senior Jammu Kashmir Apni Party Leader Usman Majid expressed serious concern over the plight of J&K residents who despite completing the mandatory quarantine period in various parts of the country are not being brought back to J&K.

In a statement to press issued here he said thousands of Kashmiris which includes, students, labourers, traders, critically ill patients are struck in different parts of the country. The miseries of these stranded people amid coronavirus pandemic and lockdown have worsened. Even those who are stranded in Jammu are not being permitted to get back home. They are stranded in their own UT, but irony is that the government is not able to bring them back, while several states have sent buses to evacuate stranded passengers from other states. Majid said.

How can J&K administration shy away from its responsibility of bringing back its stranded residents under the garb of country wide lockdown? When the supply of essential commodities on national highway is not blocked due to lockdown, how has J&K administration left its own residents to the mercy of hostile conditions of quarantine facilities?” Majid asked, while demanding an urgent and appropriate action in the matter.

Its unfortunate that government is showing callous attitude towards evacuation of Kashmiri students, labourers, traders stranded in different parts of the country. States across the country are doing everything possible to ensure safe return of stranded students, traders, devotees to their native places in their respective states. Unfortunately J&K administration doesn’t seem to be serious enough in ensuring safe return of its people stranded across various cities in the country.”

If central government can arrange for the reparation of Indians stranded abroad, why cannot it come to the rescue of stranded J&K students, labourers, traders and others? Likewise many state governments across the country are sending fleet of buses to fetch their stranded students back home to their native places. Why isn’t JK government thinking in that direction? I have been receiving various distress calls from such students, traders, and laborers from across the country. Their situation is pitiful as most of them are running out of money.

What purpose does this government serve if it leaves it’s  people on roads Majid Said.

Usman Majid urged the government to use all possible means of transportation available with it to fetch all the stranded J&K Laborers, students and other back to their native places in J&K.
