Srinagar-Leh highway to remain closed from tomorrow till further orders

Ganderbal, Dec 31 (KNO): The administration on Thursday directed closure of Srinagar-Leh highway for vehicular movement from Friday (January 01) in view of slippery conditions of the road triggered by the fresh snowfall.

The highway will be closed from Friday till further orders to avoid any mishap.

According to an order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “In view of the weather forecast of snowfall, sub-zero temperature & slippery condition of the road from Gagangeer to Zojila (Zero Point), the committee formed vide Government Order No. 1048-JK (GAD) of 2020 dated 13-11-2020 met informally and decided to close the road which endanger the life and property due to the slippery conditions from 1st Jan,2021 to avoid any mishap till further orders.”

Pertinently, an official told KNO that around 100 vehicles were stranded along the highway, adding that the vehicles were allowed to ply towards their destination today—(KNO)
