Peerzada Waseem

Sopore, Dec 31 (KNO): Inhabitants of Mohalla Sheikh Sahib Chinkipora Sopore here on Thursday staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD), alleging that the department has failed to repair a damaged transformer in the area for last 15 days.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), scores of people, especially women assembled outside their locality and staged a protest over the precarious power cuts.

The protesters raised slogans against the PDD department and said that they (Authorities) have failed to repair and restore electricity in the area.

“We are facing huge inconvenience in this harsh winter in absence of the power,” Bashir Ahmad, one of protesting residents said, adding that the transformer in the area developed snag two weeks before but the department has so far failed to repair it, thus leaving the residents to lurch at large.

He said that they visited the department many times nobody paid heed to their sufferings.

The protesters told KNO that they will hit streets again if their demand will not be fulfilled at an earliest.

Meanwhile, officials in the PDD department Sopore assured that the genuine demands of the residents will be addressed at an earliest—(KNO)
