Srinagar, Nov 2nd 2020: Nature has endowed Kashmir with implausible beauty and is rightly called “PARADISE ON EARTH”. The valleys of Kashmir are untamed and unspoilt. Surrounded by the sublime mountains, these valleys echo nature, beauty and a certain level of mysticism. Just like everywhere else, Kashmir has stray dogs. The dogs in valley hardly suffer from food shortages as there is always availability of left over food be it chicken entrails, legs, mutton entrails besides the cooked rice ,rottis, bread from every household. But there is still a lot of animal abuse in valley be it mishandling of animals by some cruel people or the rash and unethical driving leading to accidental deaths of dogs or rendering them paralyzed for entire life or with broken bones. Imagine the pain they suffer throughout their life. So here we are with two noble souls , Sanna Bandey and Asma Noor sheikh, animal lovers , who came up with the mission of helping the street animals and have been rescuing animals for a while now. They felt the pain of animals which many of us too feel but their pain turned into a mission of saving strays. Along with another passionate animal lover Nighat Lone, they registered Kashmir Animal Welfare Foundation and began their journey for this great cause.
Kashmir Animal Welfare Foundation (KAWF) is the only registered not-for-profit, self-funded organization. Volunteer based organization in Kashmir Valley with a mission to help and improve the lives of abused, starved, injured, ignored, abandoned strays of Kashmir Valley. From a handful of animal lovers to a volunteer base of 35 people, KAWF has come a long way in the last one year. The journey of KAWF can be summed up with treating the animals suffering from skin issues to accidental injuries to severe medical problems like meningitis. Some of the cases are treated on spot while others that need immediate and long term medical attention are transported to the kennels where care takers handle the cases 24×7. KAWF has run regular feeding drives across city during lockdown making sure animals that have lost their sources of food are fed and their survival is taken care of. KAWF is capable of changing the lives of strays in the Kashmir Valley but this is possible if they receive support and handholding from all ends.
